Cleansing the Circle

Consecrating a Barrier for Protection

The next step in your beginner’s wizard training is to cleanse and consecrate the circle using the purified water and salt, followed by censing the circle with incense. This process helps to further purify and protect the sacred space, ensuring it is suitable for your ritual work.

  1. Consecrating the Circle with Water and Salt: Combine a few pinches of the cleansed salt with the purified water, stirring it clockwise with your fingers or a ritual tool. Starting in the East, move clockwise around the circle while sprinkling the saltwater mixture with your fingers or a small brush. As you do this, speak the following words:

“I consecrate this circle with the elements of water and earth. May it be purified and protected, a sanctuary for my magical workings. In the names of [god] and [goddess], so mote it be.”

  2. Censing the Circle: Choose an incense that corresponds with the intention of your ritual. Some examples include:

    • Frankincense for purification and spiritual growth
    • Lavender for healing and calming energy
    • Sage for protection and clearing negativity
    • Cinnamon for attracting love and abundance

Light the incense and allow it to smolder, producing a fragrant smoke. Hold the incense in your dominant hand, or use a censer or incense holder if preferred. Starting in the East, move clockwise around the circle, allowing the smoke to waft over the space. Speak the following words:

“I consecrate this circle with the elements of air and fire. May it be purified and protected, a sanctuary for my magical workings. In the names of [god] and [goddess], so mote it be.”

  3. Acknowledging the Consecrated Circle: Return to the East and stand in the center of the circle. You may wish to raise your arms or hold your ritual tool (wand, athame, or staff) to acknowledge the energies you have invoked:

“This circle is now consecrated and protected, a sacred space for my magical work. May all that I do within be for the highest good of all.”

By Consecrating a Barrier for Protection with the water and salt mixture and censing it with incense, you have created a purified and protected space for your ritual. Be mindful of your intention and the energies you have invoked as you continue with your magical work.
