Raising the Circle of Power

SUMMONING THE GUARDIANS

The next step in your beginner’s wizard training is to raise the circle of power and summon the guardians of the four watchtowers. This process helps to further protect the sacred space and call upon the guidance and assistance of powerful energies.

  1. Raising the Circle of Power: Stand in the center of your consecrated circle, facing East. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, focusing on your intention and connecting with your inner power. Visualize a sphere of energy surrounding the circle, extending above and below it. Hold out your index/pointing finger, sword, or Atheme, and draw the invoking pentagram and speak the following words while :

“By the power within me and the energies that surround me, I raise this circle of power to protect and amplify my workings.”

  2. Summoning the Guardians of the Four Watchtowers: Begin in the East, facing the yellow candle representing Air. Call upon the guardian of the Eastern watchtower with the following words:

“Guardian of the East, watchtower of Air, hereby do  summon, stir, and call you up to join and protect this circle. Lend me your wisdom and guidance as I perform my magical work.”

(I prefer to draw the Invoking pentagram of fire, as represented in the image above. Likewise, later, the banishing pentagram will be that of fire.)
  3.

Move clockwise to the South, facing the red candle representing Fire. Call upon the guardian of the Southern watchtower with the following words:

“Guardian of the South, watchtower of Fire, hereby do  summon, stir, and call you up to join and protect this circle. Lend me your passion and transformation as I perform my magical work.”

Continue to the West, facing the blue candle representing Water. Call upon the guardian of the Western watchtower with the following words:

“Guardian of the West, watchtower of Water, hereby do  summon, stir, and call you up to join and protect this circle. Lend me your intuition and emotional depth as I perform my magical work.”

Finally, move to the North, facing the green candle representing Earth. Call upon the guardian of the Northern watchtower with the following words:

“Guardian of the North, watchtower of Earth,  hereby do  summon, stir, and call you up to join and protect this circle. Lend me your strength and stability as I perform my magical work.”

  4. Return to the center, or to the altar, ring the bell if you brought one, point upwards, or raise your atheme and say, this circle of power has been erected, may it serve me well for all that I intend to perform within it. In the names of [god] and [goddess], so mote it be. Visualize the power of the circle you are now within.
  5. Proceeding with the Main Ritual: With the circle of power raised and the guardians of the four watchtowers summoned, you are now ready to proceed with the main ritual as desired. This may involve:

    • Evocation: Summoning spiritual entities for guidance or assistance
    • Invocation: Inviting deities or spiritual energies into your circle to share their wisdom and power
    • Sacrifice: Offering symbolic gifts or items to the divine as a sign of gratitude and devotion
    • Celebration: Honoring a Sabbat (seasonal festival) or Esbat (lunar phase) to connect with the natural cycles and energies
    • Feast, Cakes, and Wine: Sharing a meal, symbolic cakes, or beverages with the spirits and energies you have invoked, symbolizing unity and gratitude

After completing your main ritual, be sure to thank the guardians of the watchtowers, release the circle of power, and properly close the ritual space. This will help to maintain a harmonious relationship with the energies and entities you have worked with and ensure that your magical space remains sacred and protected.
