Purifying Water and Salt

 Removing the Impurities is Necessary

The next step in your beginner’s wizard training is to cleanse and purify the water and salt to be used in your ritual. Cleansing these elemental tools helps to ensure that they carry positive energies and are free from any negativity.

  1. Cleansing the Water: Prepare a small bowl of water, preferably collected from a natural source like a river, stream, or rainwater. If this is not possible, tap water can be used as well. Place the water upon a pentacle if you have one, either drawn, engraved in wood or matal, or otherwise constructed. Hold your dominant hand over the bowl, or point at it, and close your eyes, focusing on your intention to cleanse the water. Visualize a white or golden light emanating from your hand, purifying the water as it passes through. Speak the following words:

“Hereby do I cleanse and purify this water, removing any negativity and impurities of spirits and elementals from it. And let it be charged with positive energy. In the names of [god] and [goddess], so mote it be.” Lift the water respectfully, visualizing a violet glow coming from it. Then place it on the altar.

  2. Cleansing the Salt: Take your small dish or container of salt, and place it on the pentacle. Hold your dominant hand over the salt, or point at it, or if you have a daggar/atheme, point that at it.  Close your eyes and visualize the same white or golden light purifying the salt as you speak the following words:

“I cleanse and purify this salt, removing any negativity and impurities. May it be charged with positive energy. In the names of [god] and [goddess], so mote it be.” Lift the salt respectfully, visualizing a violet glow coming from it. Then place it on the altar.

Now that the water and salt have been cleansed, they are ready to be used in your ritual. In a later step, you will learn how to combine the water and salt for consecrating the magic circle and other ritual tools.
